Oldboy Hangul RROldeuboi MROldboi is a 2003 South Korean mystery thriller neonoir film directed by Park Chanwook. It is based on the Japanese manga of the same name written by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya. Oldboy is the second installment of The Vengeance Trilogy, preceded by Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and followed by Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.

In 1988, businessman Oh Daesu Choi Minsik is arrested for drunken behavior, missing his daughters 4th birthday. After his friend Joohwan Ji Daehan picks him up from the police station, they go to a phone booth for Daesu to call home. While Joohwan is talking to Daesus wife, Daesu is kidnapped. He wakes up in a hotellike prison. Confined with no human contact or explanation for his kidnapping and frequently gassed with a possibly mind altering drug, Daesu learns through news reports his wife has been murdered and he is the prime suspect. Daesu passes the time shadowboxing, planning revenge, and secretly attempting to tunnel out of his cell.In 2003, exactlyyears after he was imprisoned, Daesu wakes up on a rooftop with a suit and some money. He receives a taunting phone call from his captor, who refuses to explain why he was imprisoned. Later, he collapses at a sushi restaurant and is taken in by Mido Kang Hyejung, the restaurants young chef. ........
